Lia was a project that I started as a psychology undergraduate student. I wanted to experiment with the intersection between mobile games and psychological tools for behaviour change. The project was targeted towards people who wanted nudging to be more social in party situations. As an app, it provided specific targeted tasks, conversation topics, and little games. The progress was tracked through the AI character who would provide motivation, tips, and even some aspects of psychometric evaluations. For me, this was a very experimental game and learning experience. In concept, it was all about providing the user with a digital companion that would help them to get into comfortable and fun social situations (i.e. to leave the digital space). The reality showed that not all aspects of the app would provide this escape for all people, since individual differences and social contexts were heavily varying - which definitely informed my research ofer the following years.
